It's the most wonderful time of the year.....or is it?? With the holiday season approaching it's often easy to get caught up in the shopping, the cooking, the parties, the stress! It's easy to get frustrated with family members, to slack off on exercising and indulge a little too much. It's easy to forget about the dozens of the things that we have to be truly grateful for every single day. If we really stop and think about it, we could probably all name 5 things we're thankful for at the drop of a hat....the problem for most of us is that we don't. We might be better about being thankful and voicing that out loud to friends and family at this time of year, but what if we adopted that mentality all year long?
An article published by Harvard Medical School said, 'gratitude helps people feel more positive emotions, relish good experiences, improve their health, deal with adversity, and build strong relationships.' They gathered intel from a study that was done where some participants focused on gratitude and others on daily irritations. 'After 10 weeks, those who wrote about gratitude were more optimistic and felt better about their lives. Surprisingly, they also exercised more and had fewer visits to physicians than those who focused on sources of aggravation.'
While this all sounds great and beneficial, the big question is how do we practice being grateful? Here's an awesome infographic from blogger Sally Chung that might give you some good starting points...
So, stop and think...what are you grateful for in this moment? What can you do to maintain that attitude of gratitude longer than just the month of November?
We at PBX are very grateful for our clients and grateful that you all choose to spend your time, your money and your sweat at our studio. Over the past 5 years we have grown by leaps and bounds and you all are the biggest reason for our THANK YOU! We hope that as this holiday season kicks off once again that you will find time to pause and reflect on all of the many things in your life that you can be grateful for. Trust'll make you feel as good as you do after one of our classes!
